We spent most of Easter Sunday afternoon with extended family at Rossiters Point, Moonta Bay. My son and I were in 'nature lovin' heaven discovering crabs. Check out all the different types we found in one small rocky area. Another family were also exploring the rocks nearby and we were curious, and mildly concerned, as to why they were collecting so many small to medium sized crabs in a bucket. Thankfully, we later overheard them saying that they had finally collected enough for a crab race!! They invited us to join in so we watched as they drew a large circle in the sand, gently tipped the crabs in the middle of the circle and said "Choose a crab. First one to the edge of the circle wins....Go!" Most of the little critters were a little too disoriented to move but a few got cracking, side ways, almost immediately. This one below was the winner....with only one huge claw! :-) How cute are his little tracks? After the race the kids and parents scooped them up with the help of buckets and spades, or even hands, to return them safely to the rock pools. So, spirit animal totem for the week....definitely crab! From spirit-animals.com "Crab is reminding you that not all paths lead directly to your personal goals. Sometimes a sideways approach is necessary. Shift your focus to what is all around you because your inner senses are trying to guide you through an easier way." Okay, I'll try! :-)

I don't love spiders. I don't hate them, I'm not completely and utterly terrifed of them but...yeh...I'm not a fan either. I don't know if it is the season for them or just because we have been doing work on our back block but there are definitely a few around. We even saw this little scene play out, below. A large dead spider about to be a meal for a wasp! We followed it until the wasp eventually pulled it over the fence. The next day I found this scene in the bathroom. I didn't even notice it until I went to lean down and one fell into the water. Eeek! For a moment I thought I had an infestation! Luckily this time they were fake spiders. (I didn't think we owned that many plastic spiders??) So, although not quite as beautiful as the dolphin encounter of the previous week, I wonder what message the spiders might like to give me? Spiritanimal.info tells me that Spiders hold messages of...
I especially like this bit, relevant to my life at the moment.... Just like the spider weaves her beautifully engineered web, this spirit animal fosters the integration of all parts and aspects of your life into a whole. When the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal could guide you to integrate some piece of your personal “puzzle” and gain a more coherent perspective on your life. The spider is a spirit animal whose purpose is to inspire you to gain perspective on an issue or project you contemplate taking on. Feel free to explore the many facets of the problem you are facing in order to find the appropriate solution. The power of this animal encourages you to count on your ability to view things from multiple angles and weave mental and intuitive flexibility into your daily thinking." Thanks spiders, I'll give it some thought. Now, on your way. This is a story about my birthday :-) The Man of the House generously designed a kayak voucher for me to celebrate my birthday last year, to buy one or to hire, whatever I decided. I chose to hire kayaks during my birthday week in November. Unfortunately, our son ended up home from school unwell on the day we had planned so it was all postponed. Fast forward 3 months later...because that is how long things take around here sometimes.... Celebration time! Yesterday we hired two single kayaks from Wallaroo Marina Apartments for $20 an hour. This is a new service offered in our area, the first Summer they've been available. There is a double kayak also available for hire. At the hotel we filled out the paper work for insurance purposes then we were provided with life jackets and little wheels, along with the kayaks. One draw back was that it was a bit of a trek to pull the kayaks down to the boat ramp. We figured that there would be a spot to launch somewhere closer to the hotel. We managed okay, of course, but it did an extra element of fitness to the morning :-) Launching at the shore made for a smooth and uneventful entry into the water. I took a few moments to get my balance, took a first tentative row or two...then we were off. The marina looked much calmer than the open sea so we headed in there, it was nice and smooth and really quite lovely to be out on the water. Below is a photo of me as we headed into the marina past the boats. I was glad the boats weren't on the move...that may have required an extra element of steering/paddling expertise! Overall, we had a great morning and it was definitely a good work out. Thanks lovely hubby and happy belated 37th birthday to me :-) xx If you are interested in kayak hire, check out Wallaroo Marina Apartments website. If you are over this way and wanting to purchase a kayak, I highly recommend checking out Adventure Life, in Wallaroo. |
