We had a little holiday at Mannum, South Australia a few weeks back. It is a lovely town right on the banks of the Murray River. We planned to go camping in the caravan park but unfortunately I forgot to tell the Man of the House that the tent we were borrowing was in two bags. We only packed one. Uhoh. Upon asking management what we could do, we discovered that the only accommodation available was a deluxe cabin. Hmmm. I tried to be disappointed :-) Many holiday makers visit the Murray River for the water sports in Summer so we found holidaying at the end of Winter had quite a different feel. Peace. Quiet. Solitude. Some of my favourite things. Here I am by the banks of the river looking relaxed in my Target tracksuit, hehe. I actually wasn't that relaxed. There were beautiful swans and pelicans quite close by. Lovely to look at. Not so nice to sit in their shit. Not that I did but I decided to get up after that photo! Our little deck was a much nicer spot. If you've never been to Mannum in the late Winter/early Spring, I highly recommend it. We were blessed with beautiful mild weather. There was a great playground in the caravan park itself and another large one in the main street. An amazing bakery with amazing prices. A mainstreet of shops to browse in. A ferry ride for the kids, big and small. Great food at the Mannum Club. Also, I must admit I was quite nervous about staying near water before we arrived but we managed to tag team really well with the kids so my anxiety around supervision near the water was not too bad. This was sunrise, it was so beautiful. For all the mums of young children about to begin their Spring holidays...I wish you a relaxing and fulfilling time together as a family, whether you're staying home or heading away. It won't be all rainbows and roses, whether it's sitting in bird shit or a forgotten tent bag or squabbling kids...so take some deep breathes, be gentle with yourself, take a little break if you need to and see what's in your parenting or self care tool box to try. Here's a post I wrote last school holidays after a rough day if you need it! xx

All is going well with my Thermochef, I've had it for over 5 months now and it gets a workout; I'm very happy with it. Here is some recent pics of meals we have enjoyed. Chicken Nuggets, recipe here from Thermomix. Zucchini and Ricotta Fritters. (Thermostruck Recipe Book, to purchase here) This one had personality :-) Fish cakes with coriander and spring onion from the Thermostruck recipe book. I will coat them in a healthy bread crumb next time for some crunch, they were amazing. Cauliflower soup with nutmeg and parmesan from the Thermochef International Recipe Cards. I've also made my second batch of stock using this recipe from Thermomix...I'm really pleased with it which is lucky because I use ALOT of it :-) I hope this post finds you well and you're enjoying this sunny Spring weather if you live in Australia.
xx The fashion parade was a success!
It looked to be nearly a full house as far as fundraising efforts for the kindy and Lisa Slabskyj's eight handmade and designed dresses were stunning. The style of the dresses included Treasured, Bohemian, Vintage glamour, Beach, Formal, Princess, Romantic and Spring. My favourite was 'Spring'...short full skirt and spotted tulle :-) My dress was 70's style. The dress was actually eerily similar to my mum's wedding dress, she was a beautiful 70's bride, although her dress had a higher neck and floaty cuffs. Anyway, here I am, my modelling and wedding dress debut, hehe. I was proportionately nervous before hand but freaked out a bit when I was out there but not to worry....moving out of my comfort zone is important to me. It so often leads to wonderful moments and experiences. I especially enjoyed the feminine energy before the parade, our common goal in mind to support Lisa in her creative pursuits. Head on over to Lisa's facebook to see more of the collection. xx How do you like to eat your bananas?
My son and I love bananas but we are very fussy about when we best like to eat them...perfectly yellow and ripe. A couple of days later? The flavour really changes in my opinion and we prefer to make smoothies in our house, either to drink straight away or to make creamy iceblocks. (We like to use the juice left over from tin fruit instead of milk.) I was very pleased when a friend posted this recipe on facebook... Banana biscuits Source: Kidspot Ingredients:
Method: Preheat oven to 230°C. Line baking tray with baking paper and set aside. Cream the butter and sugar. (Mine was a half hearted attempt and they still worked out ;-) Stir in the bananas until combined. Stir in flour, oats and coconut. Place teaspoons of the mixture on the tray, leaving room for them to spread. Place in the oven and turn it down to 200°C. Bake for 10 minutes. Yummy and a great way to use up over ripe bananas! The website suggests pecans or dates for a boost and I think I will try slivered almonds next time. Next week I'm going to try a banana muesli bar recipe. Please sing out if you have one. xx We bid farewell to our little froggie friends this week. Despite my reluctance to keep tadpoles or frogs after a few casualties, it seems I was persuaded by two little people to puh-lease keep our remaining two tadpoles until they had grown. I agreed, these would be our last two... and I desperately wanted to keep these two little ones alive. We found the tadpoles just over 3 months ago at a local rainwater run off area, measuring under a centimetre long including their tails. We boiled lettuce for them for the first couple of weeks for food but after that we decided to let the water get a little green and merely put the cage outside when it was raining to get some fresh water/oxygenation. As the tadpoles grew they would suck the algae off the sides of the plastic aquarium, their little bodies eager to feed and grow. They got really fat and squishy around the time when their legs were sprouting. Then, quite suddenly really, they shrunk and shrivelled, and we had a very cute baby frog! By this time I was feeling nervous when I checked on them everyday so we decided to set them free one morning before school. They seemed happy enough in their new environment.
I hope so. Farewell froggies. Thanks for sharing your miraculous transformation with us! xx If you need a beautiful dress for a special occasion or a wedding, made to measure, unique and just for you and you live on the Yorke Peninsula, Lisa Slabskyj, Dressmaker is one very talented lady. Lisa's wedding and formal dresses will be presented in a fashion parade this Friday night with proceeds going to the Kadina Preschool. Tickets are only $12 from the kindy. Lisa asked me whether I would like to be her 'bohemian bride' many months ago. I was definitely keen. It's for a great cause, the staff at the kindy work passionately and tirelessly in their profession. I love a good social night without the kidlets. I really like dressing up when I can find clothes I love and Lisa is my friend so of course I would want to help her out as she launches her amazing new business...win, win, win, win! This is a sneak peak of my dress.... My sleeve cuffs which are so beautiful. I'm a little bit in love with those buttons. This is for the Princess Bride And Ms. Vintage Glamour You can check out more of Lisa's work on her facebook page.
Some benefits of choosing Lisa on the YP include...
Wish me luck for Friday! Go Lisa! xxx |
