I had a little list of things I wanted to do this year and seeing we are nearly in November, I thought I would take another look. These, and a couple of others, are unticked as yet... Go rollerskating - I know there is a Roller Disco in Gawler 1 1/2 hours drive away at Gawler Rec centre or I could buy skates and do it locally or even go and watch the Copper Coast Roller Derby group practice to get me motivated? Whatever I choose, I better get my skates on! Pamela over at Zesty Mom did :-) Learn piano - Still going but I have reached a stage where I cannot progress any further until I sit down and do some more theory. Find some clothes that suit me - I did a huge clean out of clothes earlier this year that I didn't like or didn't look good but replacing these clothes is proving difficult. Body shape, things I actually like, style (not so much what is 'on trend' but more what will look half decent), budget, availability in a regional area/success at online shopping etc. I'll keep trying but in the mean time I have a handful of outfits I love and a few that are 'ok' for now. *sigh* First world problems, I know. Start a band and perform - Singing with a couple of friends has been loads of fun and something for me to enjoy outside of my parenting role this year. Our first performance is for kids in Kadina on November 16th and I will look into performing adult stuff next year. Bush dancing: I love bush dancing but there have been no dances around here that I know of. Unless I'm going to organise one myself, which is not totally out of the question in the future I suppose, this one will need to stay on the list for now. Plant some more trees: Gardening is one of my least favourite things to do, despite enjoying the beauty of them. I am making slow progress here. I'd like to get some more trees in before Christmas though, the sooner they are in, the sooner they will grow big and shady. Complete 2010/2011 photo album : I am making slow, very slow, progress here but I'd prefer not to start 2014 with this one incomplete. We'll see :-) Ride a horse - There was a large horse at the Gladstone Fair that I attended last month but I felt busy and stressed by the time we got around to the horse area and so did my daughter. Maybe this was just an excuse. Anyhow, this goal can stay on the list for as long as it needs to. I'm thinking it probably needs to be in a semi-private area also, not at a fair. Me + Riding horses = Scary. I did pat a baby alpaca. What about you?
Is there anything you would like to experience before the year is up? xx

Amazing. Artisan. Gelati. Wow. Have you visited before? As you drive out of Moonta, heading towards Maitland, it is on your left, set back off the road in a rural setting. The proprietors and staff are generous and kindred spirits, passionate about food and service...and it shows. These were some of the flavours of the day when we visited. What would you choose? Coffee. Kinder Surprise. Peanut Butter Fudge. Salted Caramel (So trying this next time) Macadamia. Chocolate. Vanilla. Almond and Carmelised Fig. Tiramisu. White Choc Cherry. Banana. Choc Dream. Citrus Sorbet. Kiwi Sorbet. YUMMY! The Man of the House and I visited there last Friday (with only a little room left in our full bellies after feasting on the rich and beautiful food at Indian Inn, Cornwall Hotel, Moonta). I chose a scoop of banana. There is nothing artificial about this banana flavour...it tastes refreshing and creamy, melt in your mouth. The forementioned spicy lunch led the Man of the House to choose Citrus Sorbet and another scoop of Lemon on top. (Non-dairy) Just the right about of zest and refreshment....oh wow. Here's me feeling excited. I love food. A couple of years ago I ordered a birthday cake for The Man of the House with lots of different flavours...it was crazy special. Other homemade tempting delights include...
The Coffee Barn and Gelateria is not to be missed if you are visiting the Yorke Peninsula.
Opening hours are 10-5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Public Holidays and South Australian School Holidays Here is a easy, super healthy recipe for Banana Muesli Bars. I've been looking for different ways to use my over ripe bananas. I think these will be good for lunch boxes, next time I will leave out the nuts so they are suitable for school. Banana Muesli Bars - Adapted from www.thekitchn.com
2 large, very ripe bananas 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups rolled oats 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup pitted, chopped dried dates 1/4 cup chopped nuts, ie. walnuts, slivered almonds, pecans or raw cashews Cinnamon/nutmeg/coconut for sprinkling. Heat the oven to 180 degrees and line a shallow baking tray with baking paper. (Mine was 20cm x 15cm) Mash the banana flesh until no chunky bits remain. Add vanilla essence. Add the oats. Add salt, dates, and nuts. Press down into your slice tray. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg and coconut. Bake for 25 minutes or until the edges just begin to crisp up. Enjoy! “Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited.” I love this quote by Dr Suzuki, the founder of the Suzuki method of learning music for children. This year we have been very lucky in Kadina to have Jennifer Tingley, a professional Cello player with an impressive resume, move to our local area and teach Baby and Toddler Music classes. We have completed three terms of group music class and my little girl has now graduated with excellent musical timing (Proud mummy moment much?!) Learning music by the Suzuki method is fun for both the kids and the care givers present. Within the one hour lesson there is drumming, glockenspiel, wood block and mallet, movement, dance, story time and much more. You can call Jenny on 0419 962 968 or check out the South Australian website for more information.
Jenny offers small group classes for 0-3year olds on Monday and Tuesday mornings in Kadina at the Anglican Church and also teaches private cello lessons. |
